Chinese Stir Fry Tofu & Vegetables Recipe (Chinese Vegetarian Recipe)

Welcome to Xiao’s Kitchen. My name is Xiao Wei, ever since my Mother taught me how to cook at an early age, I have always had a strong passion for Cooking. My family still live in Inner Mongolia in the northern part of China, where I visit each year and pick-up new Asian/Chinese recipes.

You don’t have to be vegetarian to embrace tofu as an ingredient. Made from soya beans, it’s not only high in protein and calcium, but it has an exceptional ability to absorb flavours through spices and marinades, making a truly tasty addition to a stir-fry.

300g tofu
1 green pepper
1 carrot
Quarter of a small cabbage
1 spring onion
3 cloves garlic
1cm of ginger root
2 tablespoons dark soy sauce

Chop the garlic, ginger and spring onions
Thinly slice the carrot & slice pepper

Cut cabbage into bite-size
Place these on a dish for later

Cut tofu into bite-sized cubes

Heat 1 litre of cooking oil in a wok until smoking hot
Slowly place tofu into the oil
Deep fry for 5 minutes until light brown
Remove from oil and drain

Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in the wok
Add the garlic, ginger and spring onions
Fry for few seconds
Add the mixed vegetables
Stir-fry for 2 minutes
Add the tofu & soy sauce
Add salt to your taste
Stir-fry for 2 minutes
Transfer to a dish and serve

What do you think?

  1. I would fry the cabbage before with ginger, then add garlic and carrots/green pepper and close it with tofu and spring onions. If you want onions its better to put yellow onions to caramelize with the cabbage, to hard fry spring onions in the beginning seems like waisting them.

  2. If you Add bit of sugar it will taste better. Also any Chinese chilli paste will enhance the taste.

  3. Hi Xiao thanks for the wonderful and delicious recipe. Unfortunately the tofu I got from the Tesco wasn't as hard as the one you used in your recipe recipe. Is there a way to make the to make them a little bit tougher.
